Lawyers, Guns & Money—Firearm Liability in the Home & Workplace
What are the parameters of gun liability in the home as a personal lines exposure and in the workplace as a commercial vulnerability? I’ll be exploring the Homeowners and General Liability forms’ response to firearm usage as a means of self-defense, property, and life protection, as well as from an “Active Shooter” in a business, public at-large, or at a school. The session will also breakdown a risk management assessment of the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida—the deadliest mass shooting at a school in U.S. history.
Business Ethics in a Post-Modern World
As our culture and society seemingly circle the toilet bowl, what are the implications for proper conduct in a business environment? I’ll be evaluating current cases and the dilemma under an ethical lense. The session will also consider the reasons to make a correct decision while conducting business, managing people, or setting the barometer for an insurance office or corporate workplace. We’ll explore the commonality of ancient texts on ethics as well as touch on pop-culture caricatures of corporate employment within NBC’s “The Office” and 20th Century Fox’s “Office Space” and the ethical commentary they provide.
Dead or Alive—The Many Functions of Life Insurance
Does a policy pay-out if there’s suspected foul play? What if there is no recoverable body (like Steve Buscemi in “Fargo”)? Remember when life insurance was just a thing for your family when you croak? What originated as a simple, single-peril insurance policy has evolved into a modern mashup of living benefits, riders and a slew of other purposes and functions that often overshadow the death benefit. This presentation dives into many functions of modern life insurance that make it more essential for families and businesses today than ever before.
Errors & Omissions in the 21st Century
Professional/expert witness case studies where Errors & Omissions claims were triggered and investigated, procedures and protocols that will best position you or your agency from experiencing a claim, and social media pitfalls are three of the things we’ll be evaluating in this session. You’ll leave this course with some procedural takeaways to start tomorrow, a firm grip on social media platforms and how to navigate your personal and business pages through murky waters.
$49 - Credit Hours: 3
Telecommuting Exposures—Post-Covid Coverages for the Remote Worker
“YOU’RE ON MUTE, Kevin!” we uttered daily during Covid as companies let America work from home for a year. Some never returned to the office and many of your clients are now working where they reside. Learn about the expanding and evolving workforce changes surrounding the concept of telecommuting. I’ll explain how multiple lines of insurance speak directly to covering both the employer and employee and how this alters the relationship and oversight. And I’ll review risk management techniques from a Best Practices perspective in accommodating and participating in the Work-From-Home environment.
Dogs, Drones & Dope—An Overview of Pet Insurance, Small Craft Aviation & Cannabis Risks
For this session, I spend an hour on each emerging topic for three of the fastest growing segments of the insurance industry. I’ll share examples and break down Pet Insurance for domesticated animals and the expanding markets that provide coverage. I’ll also provide an overview of the Homeowners form’s response to smaller, hobby-based drones and expanding small business exposures. And, lastly, touch on the intricacies in insuring cannabis-related businesses and cover some insurance trends in the marijuana industry.
